Case studies examples

Genie (1970): she was subjected to horrific abuse and isolation. This case was of great help to researchers studying whether language can be taught after the critical period of language development.

Isabelle (1930): Isabelle was discovered when she was 7 years old, living in a dark room with her deaf-mute mother as her only contact. She had no sense of language until she began to speak after intense training.

The czech twins (1972): The Czechoslovakian twins were discovered at the age of 7. They were locked in a basement with their only company and were also mistreated and beaten. They barely spoke and conversed by gestures. But they were adopted by two sisters who gave them a loving home.  By the age of 14, they had caught up.
